Auteur Bill Emmott heeft een interessant boek geschreven: "Rivals, how the powers struggle between China, Japan and India will shape out next decade". De krachten, ambities en belangen van deze drie grootmachten strijke zich over heel Azie uit. En ik denk zelf nog veel verder. Enkele interessante uitspraken: De spanningen tussen Chianen japan zijn niet zomaar van de wereld, nadat beide continenten al 1000 jaar in haat en nijd hebben geleefd. China moet meer investeren in de publieke sector en milieu. De kans op grondstofconflicten zijn niet zo groot, 250 dollar per vat olie is geen probleem voor China . Economische teruggang in China (inflatie momenteel 8%!) kan leiden tot versterkt nationalisme, aangezet vanuit de partij om haar eigen legitimiteit te vergroten. Wat dat betreft zou de komende 5 jaar best spannend kunnen worden. In mijn blog van 5 februari schreef ik al, dat Nederland zo gek niet is voor vestiging van tuinbouwbedrijfsleven. Deze uitspraak staat wat mij betreft nog steeds als een huis. Dit wil niet zeggen, dat ik niet geloof in de mogelijkheden die China als producent en consument biedt. De as Europa - China zal de economische as van de komende decennia worden. Ook voor de tuinbouw geldt dat. China is niet alleen een goedkoop productieland. Het land heeft enkele tientallen steden met meer dan 10 miljoen inwoners en een middenklasse van inmiddels enkele honderden miljoenen mensen. Een giga afzetmarkt dus. Ook kansen voor de tuinbouw, zoals de veredeling (het IPOV verdrag wordt steeds ietsje beter) of high tech. Ook zal China met zijn eigen ontwikkelingen naar Europa komen. De Nederlandse tuinbouw moet hiervoor open staan en de brug naar Europa vormen.
